If you were stranded on an island, what would you choose to take with you?

A fishing pole (Shimano Saragosa 5000SW paired with a St. Croix Triumph 10'), tackle box with an assortment of saltwater lures and a case of Pussers rum.

What's the last song you played or are listening to right now?

What was your career journey up until joining the Gnar?

I've been slinging code my entire career, which now spans over 20 years! One of my favorite things about software is it allows you to work across many industries and technologies. Change is the only constant.

If you weren't in your current role, what would you be doing?

Charter boat captain/guide service for fishing stripers off Monomoy and fluking out at the Nantucket shoals.

What's your favorite part of working at Gnar?

In my role, every day is something different. I really enjoy working directly with our clients and our team to build and ship products.

What advice would you give someone who is just starting out in your industry?

Always be learning and building, whether it be a fun side project or a side hustle. To have a successful career in software, you need to adapt to changing technologies and trends in the industry.

Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing?

Spending time with my family, staying active and outdoor pursuits involving fin, fur or feather. I especially like to be on the water, whether it be paddling a river in Maine or fishing the rips of Monomoy on Cape Cod.

Before co-founding The Gnar Company in 2016, Nick served as Lead Engineer at MeYou Health and was a Senior Software Engineer at Terrible Labs, where he built digital products for a range of clients from startups to large enterprises. His career also includes technical roles at Massachusetts General Hospital's MIND Informatics and a four-year tenure as a Web Architect at Bentley University. Nick holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Bentley University.
