Automating Data-Centrix's Business Processes for Competitive Advantage

Investment Management Support Solutions, LLC’s Data-Centrix (“IMSS”), is an online proprietary software platform that provides continuous assurance and data governance for investment firms exchanging data. The IMSS site allows authorized users to leverage artificial intelligence to analyze data in consultant databases such as from eVestment, Morningstar, Informa, Investment Metrics, Mercer, and Cambridge Associates. These consultant databases are a critical component of any investment firm’s marketing efforts since these databases are used by investors and consultants to screen potential firms for their investment needs prior to issuing an RFP.
The Challenge
IMSS was spending countless hours manually dissecting and reporting very large quantities of financial data for the 35+ consulting databases in varying formats. In order to scale their company, IMSS executives wanted to remove the margin for error with built-in detection, expedite their reporting and streamline the data flow from investment managers. IMSS realized that they needed to automate their process to remain competitive in their market, while ensuring data consistency, accuracy, and complete and timely data reporting.
The Solution
IMSS and The Gnar Company kicked off the work with a Discovery and Product Design project to define the target audience, brand values, user journey, and key app features. The Discovery Workshop was followed by designing wireframes, brand assets, and final design comps for the web application, which facilitated a detailed estimate for the development effort.
We built a fundamental understanding of the IMSS data collection and reporting processes to design and build the Data-Centrix application that was simple for investment firms to provide their data in a single template but would be translated into all of the different formats required by the various databases.
The Data-Centric Web application was built with Ruby on Rails to facilitate automation that enables investment firms to maintain data and information Integrity while improving and sustaining high reporting completion rates across the many databases.

The Results
The Data-Centrix application was launched in September 2021 to expedite the flow of information to consultant databases. In addition, the application will enable IMSS to scale by adding new clients without needing to add more client service personnel through automation.
